FREIGHTDOTCOM is the latest in a series of successful business ventures headed by Francois van Wyk, a seasoned and experienced entrepreneur who has his humble beginnings rooted in the commercial sector of the Department of Customs and Excise in Johannesburg.

His professional journey includes the responsibilities of Deputy Controller at the Beitbridge Road Border Control between South Africa and Zimbabwe in 1988, the successful development of Impson Freight Transvaal from a 4 man customs brokerage venture to a fully fledged freight forwarding and transport operation with a staff compliment of 158 between 1989 and 1995, and following the first democratic elections of the New South Africa being one of the founding shareholders of Sebenza Forwarding and Shipping (Pty) Ltd in 1996 in partnership with the BEE group Makana Investment Corporation, a trust formed by ex political prisoners of Roben Island.

In 2000, after successfully developing Sebenza operations across the main ports of South Africa, Francois sold his shares to Bidvest Corporation in order to facilitate additional funding but returned in 2004 at the request of the chairman and continued to serve as a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors until September 2011.

Francois's vast knowledge of customs legislation and formalities has played vital roles in tariff determinations and rates of duties of various imported items in the South African economic environment, the most prominent of which was the facilitation of Customs Requirements on undersea cable imports for an international telecommunication cable consortium in 1999 and the successful removal of Customs Duty on telecommunication equipment as a whole in 2006.

More recently his knowledge, experience and extensive expertise in freight forwarding and custom clearance was utilized in heading up the establishment of a South African branch for GEFCO, a French based company specialising in customs clearance and tax representation within the automotive and industrial logistics sectors.
